Vilse i Småland AB is a professional adventure company. We offer unique and engaging activities for companies and private people. The core activity is adventure packages closely connected to nature an with the human in focus.

I spent both my Learning At Work periods at Vilse which resulted in me being employed. Today I work as coordinator and I'm responsible for the economy, which means I have a very varying job - one day I will be an instructor at the high altitude track, and the next day I'm designing a summer broschure.

My tasks at Vilse consists in selling, planning, preparing and realize events where I have a lot of contact with both our guests and our suppliers as we tailor the events according to the wishes of our guests. I also handle Vilse's bookkeeping and work with marketing, which also includes our web site. At Vilse no day is the same - every day is a new adventure.

The Cultural Tourism course gives you many new possibilities, not least through the Learning At Work periods which gives you many valuable contacts within the tourism industry, and perhaps even a dream job. That's how it was for me - when I found Vilse I found the place where I belong.

Kristin Hamdan

Market coordinator, Lotus Travel AB

Directly after the course I got a job on Ostindiefararen Götheborg as the person in charge of information. I participated in the planning and realizing of three of the ship's expeditions before I "signed off".
Today I work as market coordinator at Lotus Travel in Stockholm. We offer trips to Asia for private people, groups and companies. We are one of Sweden's biggest China specialists with offices in both Peking and Shanghai. In my role as market coordinator I plan and realize our marketing activities such as web, advertising, printed matter, fairs and more.

The Cultural Tourism course has taken me form one dream job to another! The best thing about the course is its focus on the student getting a job, and also the personal and professional environment in which you get your education.

Camilla Lugnet

Marketing Coordinator/World Heritage Grimeton

The Grimeton radio station is a unique monument representing an important link in the wireless communication society we live in today. In 2004 the facility was included in the UNESCO world heritage list of indispensable objects to be preserved for posterity.

I work as market coordinator at the world heritage, which means my tasks range from developing and marketing our activities to receiving bookings and visitors. As this is a small operation I have a multifunctional role and also take care of the day to day bookkeeping and some administration.
Without the education I would not have been where I am today. First of all the thought of working at an old radio station would never have occured to me, but most of all I would not have been able to do the work I do without the knowledge I received during the course!

Marketing, Vänermuseet in Lidköping

Vänermuseet is the museum of the big lake and the water showing the nature and cultural life in the region. I'm in charge of marketing at the museum which is both varying and fun. Helene Wellner

Cultural secretary/cultural coordinator, Lidköping's municipality

Helene Wellner works as cultural secretary/cultural coordinator responsible for the "general culture" at Lidköpings municipality. The goal for the general culture is to work as an overall umbrella and to create the necessary conditions for a wide range of quality culture throughout the municipality.

Part of my job is to complete the existing range of culture offered through cultural and educational associations by arranging public cultural events. We have a number of annual events, such as the traditional new year's celebration on the town square, summer fun in the town garden, the national holiday celebration on the 6th of june and Music At Castles And Mansions, all of them examples of broad events creating meetingplaces for people of all ages.

One of the things I do in my work with marketing is to put together a monthly cultural calendar presenting a range of events, exhibitions, concerts, lectures and much more.

Contacts with adult education and other associations is a big part of my everyday work as I am responsible for preparing grants to cultural associations and adult education. A lot of time is also spent preparing matters for the cultural and leisure board as all decisions above my delegated level at 10 000 SEK has to be made by the board.

I also work with "culture at school" which includes purchasing "stage art" (music, theatre and dance) for schools and pre-schools. I am also the coordinator of the regional arrangers' grant offered to anyone arranging children's and youth culture in accordance with the criteria of the Västra Götaland region.

Last but not least I am also responsible for the budget of the general culture which requires quite a lot of administration. There is a lot of planning and structural work to be done at the computer before you eventually get to the culture on offer to the public. I learn new things and grow every day by constantly pushing my boundaries! Thank you to Kulturturism for making this possible!

Johan Ekström

Company: Västsvenska Turistrådet AB
Title: Rural development
Web site: www.vastsverige.com

My name is Johan and I think the Cultural Tourism course in Lidköping has been a very good education. At the beginning I wasn't aware of the concept of cultural tourism, but today I know it includes a wide range of interesting parts. The location of the school in the town garden is perfect, in close proximity to cafes, shopping and night life. Also enjoyed the New Zealand part of the course, a wonderful experience. It was a good course and the classroom was out in the open! This is a must for anyone who enjoys travelling and learning about new cultures.
Simply an amazing course!

Robert Secher

Today I work at Apelviken's vacation and conference center in Varberg, a popular establishment with eleven full-time employees and about 70 season employees. I got my job directly after the course. The first summer I worked in the reception After that I was put in charge of the conferences, a job with a lot of freedom and responsibility including everything from budget and marketing to service during the conference. During the summer months I manage our grocery store with 13 employees, a short but hectic period.

Johan Hermansson

Nordic market, Västsvenska Turistrådet

Västsvenska Turistrådet AB is the regional tourist organisation for western Götaland. Our job is to develop and market western Götaland as a tourist destination regionally, nationally and internationally. The overall direction of my work has a strong focus on strategic development and market communication. The goal is to make western Götaland the most visited, appreciated and lucrative region for tourism in Scandinavia. Different forms of market activities are aimed directly at the press, distribution and end consumer.

My main area of responsibility is private travel. The work includes keeping travel organizers updated about the range of products in Sweden, as well as getting "more of Sweden" into the organizers' catalogues. This is done through demonstration journeys, workshops, newsletters, visits, various campaigns and courses etc. The Learning At Work period in combination with theoretical studies is a good way to get an insight into the business and to build a contact network for the future.

One goal is for Läckö-Kinnekulle to be an attractive destination for cultural and natural tourists throughout the year.

Martin Forhaug

Self employed

After the course I started my own business. A lot has happened along the way from the beginning at the Cultural Tourism course until today. During my first Learning At Work period I worked as project assistant for four months at an event company in Stockholm. The work gave me great insight into the business and the working life. One of my biggest events in the summer of 2006 was a temporary hotel solution for the WCC-05 (World Congress of Cardiology).

The second Learning At Work period was at the same company, six weeks at the London office and the rest in Stockholm. The weeks in London, where most of the work consisted of marketing (and in my spare time football), was very rewarding. On my return to Stockholm I helped selling Stockholm as the destination for an international media launch. Out of seven possible destinations throughout Europe we were finally chosen. The preparations went on until August when everything took off with 400 visitors from all over the world during three weeks. During the launch I made a lot of contacts with people in marketing and PR from all over the world. Through these I have now got enough assignments to start my own business. The slogan "With the world as your field of work" that we heard at school really came true for me.

"My job on the East Indiaman was to put together a program for this year's breakfast meetings, everything from booking lecturers to making invitations. I also participated in the marketing department meetings which was very interesting as it's a company where the economy relies entirely on sponsoring."
